A truly historic day unfolded in Victoria Falls as the Ramsar COP15 was officially opened! We were privileged to witness His Excellency President E.D. Mnangagwa of the Republic of Zimbabwe grace the ceremony, extending a profound welcome and setting a powerful tone for the coming days. His address eloquently highlighted our “sacred duty to protect that which has been entrusted to us by Almighty God” , our wetlands, emphasizing their critical role in ecological health, biodiversity, and climate resilience for both present and future generations.
The momentum continued with powerful Ministerial statements from several selected country representatives, each reinforcing the global commitment and urgency to safeguard these vital ecosystems. The energy in the room was palpable as nations united to tackle the triple planetary crisis.
The grand ceremony then culminated with an inspiring statement from Secretary General Mumba, bringing a fitting conclusion to an impactful official opening. This marks the beginning of critical discussions and the forging of concrete commitments for “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future.” Let the work for a sustainable, equitable, and resilient future commence!
